Little is known about the history of Hacienda Chucmichén. It was probably built in the mid-19th century as were most of the haciendas in Yucatán. Large and luxurious residences were financed by the export of henequen fiber.
The glory of the haciendas shone until the middle of the 20th century. The development of synthetic fibers marked the end of "the green gold", a term deserved by henequen for its great value.
